Picking Up the Pieces

Let us be real, grief is one hot mess express nobody wants a ticket for. Whether it is losing someone precious, a dream going down the drain, or life pulling a total 180 on you, grief has a way of punching you square in the gut and leaving you gasping for air. In those rocky moments, it can feel like the world's weight is crashing down, and the idea of piecing yourself back together seems harder than solving a Rubik's cube...blindfolded.

But here is the thing, amidst all that pain and chaos, there is always a choice - the choice to embrace this crazy beautiful thing called life with open arms, wipe those tears, and keep putting one foot in front of the other. It is a choice that requires crazy amounts of courage, resilience, and an unwavering belief that hope is just around the corner, doing squats and waiting for you to catch up.

Now, don't get me wrong, the grief journey is not a walk in the park. It is more like an intense full-body workout with unexpected burpees thrown in to really keep you on your toes. Each person's experience is unique, shaped by memories that feel like a warm hug one minute and a gut punch the next. Some days, you will want to build a fort out of your tear-soaked tissues and shut the world out. But it is in those hide-under-the-covers moments that you remind yourself - life is one wild, unpredictable ride, and you are still strapped in for some more loop-de-loops.

Choosing life means embracing the present, pimple stickers and all. It means giving yourself permission to feel all the feelings - sadness, anger, joy, confusion - without judging yourself. Lean on your squad, soak up some vitamin D, pet all the puppies...do whatever brings you sparks of joy and reminds you that life is a kaleidoscope of colours waiting to be appreciated.

More than that, choosing life means honouring the ones we have lost by living life to the fullest as if they are cheering us on from the sidelines. Carry their legacies with you like a cherished heirloom. Embody the values and wisdom they bestowed upon you. Use their bright light as your compass on this wild journey.

Now, putting those pieces back together sure is not linear. There will be twists, turns, and days when those pieces feel more slippery than a waterslide. But with every deep breath, every conscious decision to keep living, you will be inching closer to healing, growth, and rediscovering your shine.

At the end of the day, life is one grand adventure full of plot twists, laughter-induced stomach cramps, and cosy movie-night memories waiting to be made. Even amid grief's storm clouds, there is always a rainbow peeking out - a kind stranger's smile, a freshly baked cake comforting scent, tiny joys that remind us to soak in each moment.

So keep glueing those pieces together, one by one, and rebuild your life with a wacky sense of courage and gratitude. Choose life in all its messy and euphoric brilliance. Embrace the journey with arms flung wide open, knowing that just around the bend is a breathtaking sunset, a new adventure, and the electrifying feeling of being deliriously, wildly, alive.

Life is too short and crazy not to dive in headfirst!

Love,

Muthoni
