Waking up to a beautiful, sun-filled morning always fills me with joy. The golden rays warming my skin, the gentle breeze —it is a scene straight out of a dream. But for me, the significance of the sun goes beyond its aesthetic appeal. You see, I have a complicated relationship with the cold. Born and raised in Nyandarua, a region known for its chilly temperatures, one might expect that I would have developed a resilience to the cold. However, it is quite the opposite. My body reacts poorly to low temperatures, bringing out my allergies and asthma. It is a genetic trait passed down from my father's side of the family—a predisposition to cold, water, pollen, and even strong scents.
Beyond the relief of seeing my children spared from my genetic predisposition, the sun holds a special significance for me. It represents more than just warmth and light; it embodies hope, renewal, and vitality. It is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there is always a glimmer of light waiting to break through the clouds.
As I bask in the sun's embrace, I can not help but reflect on the cyclical nature of life—the ebb and flow of seasons, both literal and metaphorical. Just as the rain gives way to sunshine, our lives are punctuated by moments of transition and change. From the joyous chaos of raising children to the bittersweet pang of watching them spread their wings and fly, each season brings with it, its own set of challenges and triumphs.
Yet, amidst the ever-changing landscape of life, there remains a constant—our ability to adapt and grow. It is a lesson I have learned time and time again, sometimes begrudgingly, but always with a sense of humility and gratitude. As the old saying goes, "This too shall pass." And indeed, it always does. But understanding the transient nature of seasons is not just about acknowledging their impermanence—it is about embracing the present moment and making the most of the time we have. It is about recognizing the unique opportunities and challenges that each season presents and seizing them with both hands.
So, as I soak up the rays and let their warmth wash over me, I am reminded of the importance of being present and mindful of the season I find myself in. Whether it is a season of growth, of change, or of quiet reflection, I know that each moment is fleeting, and it is up to me to make the most of it. And so, as I embark on this journey called life, I do so with an open heart and a steadfast resolve to embrace each season with grace, gratitude, and an unwavering sense of purpose. For in the end, it is not the length of the season that matters, but rather how we choose to navigate its twists and turns, savoring every moment along the way.
Love,
Muthoni
